MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College Director of Athletics Larry Hiser announced the resignation of head men's rowing coach
Chris Pucella on Friday (May 18). Pucella, who coached the Pioneers, for seven years, leaves to pursue other opportunities.
“Marietta College is appreciative of Coach Pucella's dedication to the men's rowing program,” Hiser said. “He added two Dad Vail gold medals to our storied program and leaves us in a good position to embrace the future.”
Pucella led the Pioneers to Dad Vail gold in his first and last seasons at the helm of the program. His 2006 Varsity 8+ and 2012 Freshman 8+ both captured the gold at the annual Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta.
While at Marietta, Pucella dedicated himself to developing the program to a level where it was a consistent force at the Dad Vail. Marietta's Varsity 8+ has medaled at the event in five of the last nine years.
Prior to Marietta, Pucella spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of Central Florida. As a rower, he won medals from Dad Vails, Royal Canadian Henley and U.S. Nationals.
A national search will begin immediately for Marietta College's next men's rowing coach.
