HIRAM, Ohio – Marietta College used a barrage of three-point baskets to post a 74-45 win over Hiram College Saturday (Dec. 29) afternoon in women's basketball. The Pioneers buried 10 shots from behind the arc in the game.
Marietta (6-6 overall) scored the final eight points of the first half to take a 10-point lead, 35-25, into the locker room.
Sophomore #
Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn)# was nearly unstoppable scoring 19 points in the opening period. She was a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor and 5-of-5 from the line. Alexander finished the game with a career-high 21 points.
While the first half belonged to Alexander, junior #
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County)# took over in the second. Dixon scored 12 of her 15 points in the final period. She drained four treys in the half and had five for the game.
Dixon opened the second half with a three-pointer to give the Pioneers a 38-25 lead. Hiram was unable to cut the deficit to single digits as Marietta kept the lead around 20 points for most of the period.
Alexander led all scorers with 21 points. She also grabbed four rebounds and had five assists. Dixon finished with 15 points and three assists.

Paige Lamb (Marietta/Marietta)# scored nine points, while sophomore #
Shelby Maloney (Beavercreek/Beavercreek)# added eight. Sophomore #
Lindsay Deemer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum)# pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and also blocked three Hiram shots.
Sophomore Kelsey Koskinen's eight points led the Terriers. Freshman Christy Griffin scored seven points and junior Danielle Day recorded eight rebounds.
Following an 11-day layoff, the Pioneers shot 50.0% (27-of-54) from the floor, 58.8% (10-of-17) from three-point range and 76.9% (10-of-13) at the line.
Hiram hit 15-of-55 (27.3%) from the floor, 5-of-12 (41.7%) behind the arc and 10-of-20 (50.0%) at the charity stripe.
Marietta held a slim edge in rebounding, 40-36. Hiram committed 20 turnovers, while the Pioneers turned the ball over 19 times.
