Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

John Carroll posts 4-0 shutout of Women's Soccer

MARIETTA, Ohio – John Carroll University scored twice in each half en route to a 4-0 win over Marietta College in women's soccer Saturday (Oct. 6) afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Blue Streaks are now 6-5-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in league play.

John Carroll maintained possession of the ball for most of the first half. However, the Pioneers had a couple of good scoring opportunities as their forwards outran the Blue Streak defense on a couple of occasions to create a 1-on-1 with JCU keeper. Marietta couldn't capitalize on the opportunities.

Nicki Bohrer scored the game-winner for John Carroll in the 30th minute. She fired a shot from the left side of the 18-yard box that deflected off the far post and into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

Kaylin Akerly scored the first of three goals four minutes later when the Pioneer defense failed to clear the ball out of their end of the field.

Akerly added two more goals in the second half. She scored off an assist from Jackie Murrer in the 51st minute and then created a 1-on-1 with Marietta keeper #Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange)# in the 56th minute to complete the hat trick.

Pearse made eight saves in net for the Pioneers. Haley McDonald recorded a pair of saves in goal for the Blue Streaks.

For the match, John Carroll took 22 shots to just six for the Pioneers. The Blue Streaks also held a commanding 10-0 lead in corner kicks.
