Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

John Carroll slips by Men's Soccer 1-0

MARIETTA, Ohio – A goal midway through the first half was all that John Carroll University needed to defeat Marietta College in men's soccer Saturday (Oct. 6) afternoon. The 1-0 victory improved the Blue Streaks to 6-5-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Pioneers move to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the OAC.

The Blue Streaks launched an all-out attack during the first half taking 14 shots to just one for the Pioneers. Marietta junior goalkeeper #Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta)# was nearly perfect making seven saves in the opening period.

JCU's Jon Smola sent a through ball into the six-yard box where Thor Erikson got in behind the Pioneer defense and found himself 1-on-1 with Stollar. Erikson slipped the ball past Stollar for the only goal of match.

Marietta came out in the second half with more intensity on the offensive side of the field. The Pioneers created several scoring opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net.

Sophomore #Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta)# nailed the post three minutes into the period and the follow-up shot by #Miles Alexander (Bellbrook/Bellbrook)# was blocked by a John Carroll defender.

Stollar finished the day with nine saves. JCU's Carl Contrascier made one stop in goal for the Blue Streaks.

For the match, John Carroll took 22 shots and 10 corner kicks. The Pioneers recorded 10 shots and two corners.
