Men's Soccer drops 3-0 decision at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – A pair of second chance goals helped the University of Mount Union men's soccer team defeat Marietta College Tuesday (Oct. 2) evening. The Purple Raiders posted a 3-0 win to improve to 3-5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Pioneers fall to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the OAC.

Marietta went on the attack early with two scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes of play. #Scott Eilmann (North Royalton/North Royalton)# and #Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta)# each got off a good shot but Mount Union's keeper Jon Critell made the save on both attempts.

The Purple Raiders drew first blood in the 27th minute. After the Pioneer defense blocked a shot by Chris Felker, Mount's Coty Lipply gathered the loose ball and fired a shot past Marietta goalkeeper #Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta)# for the goal.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Purple Raiders until midway through the second half. Chris Motley nailed the crossbar with a shot in the 72nd minute. The ball deflected to Lipply who slipped the follow-up shot into the net for a 2-0 lead.

Mount Union added an insurance goal less than seven minutes later. Lipply sent the ball through the Pioneer defense to Austin Farroni who beat Stollar for the goal.

Mount Union outshot Marietta 15-6 for the match and had six shots on goal. The Pioneers took three shots on goal. Each team had six corner kicks.

Stollar and Critell both recorded three saves in net.
