MARIETTA, Ohio – Capital University posted a 3-0 win over Marietta College Tuesday (Oct. 16) afternoon in men's soccer. The Crusaders scored a pair of first-half goals and added an insurance goal in the second half.
Capital (7-5-3, 2-3-1 OAC) went on the attack right from the opening whistle. The Crusaders earned a corner kick just over a minute into the match.
Al Argyris sent the corner into the box where Josh Spaw's header was blocked by a Marietta defender. Nick Eley controlled the deflection and fired a point-blank shot on goal that Marietta keeper #

The Pioneers settled down and manufactured a couple good shots of their own. Sophomore #
Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta)# took two shots that Crusader goalkeeper Bob Weisgarber saved keeping the match scoreless.
Argyris, Capital's leading scorer, took possession of the ball and dribble through the Marietta defense and into the box. He got off a shot that went just inside the left post for the first goal of the match in the 26th minute.
The Crusaders extended their lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute. R.G. Florey sent a long through ball from beyond midfield into the box to Nick Eley. Eley gathered the ball and took the shot from 10 yards out for the score.
A foul on Marietta led to Capital's final goal of the day. The Pioneers were whistled for a foul near midfield. Florey's direct kick was perfectly placed into the six-yard box where Tim McCarthy headed the ball into the back of the net.
Capital held a slim 15-13 advantage in shots on the day. The Crusaders took six corner kicks to Marietta's three.
Stollar made seven saves in net for the Pioneers. Capital split the goalkeeping duties between Weisgarber and Dylan Beck. Weisgarber made six saves in 73 minutes, while Beck played the final 17 minutes without a save.
