MARIETTA, Ohio – Wilmington College defeated Marietta College by the score of 3-0 Saturday (Oct. 20) in men's soccer action. The Quakers scored one in the first half and added a pair of insurance goals in the second period to improve to 10-5-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta drops to 4-1 on the season and 1-6 in the OAC.
The Quakers wasted little time in taking the lead scoring just 2:10 into the match. Dan Wicks sent a through ball into the box to Marcus Thorbjornsson. Thorbjornsson collected the ball and fired it inside the right post for the game-winner.
Wilmington had several chances to add to their leading in the first 45 minutes. The Quakers took seven corner kicks in the half but the Pioneer defense was able to turn them all away.
The Quakers did score off a corner kick in the second half. In the 63rd minute Henrik Hornaess sent a corner into the six-yard box where Drew Fields headed the ball in for a goal.
Wicks scored Wilmington's final goal of the match in the 66th minute. Wicks unleashed a monster shot that deflected off a Pioneer defender into the net.

Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta)# made seven saves in the match. Wilmington starting keeper Antonio Trujillo recorded four saves, while Tim Wiederhold had one save in 13 minutes of playing time.
Wilmington took 17 shots in the match including 10 shots on goal. The Pioneers managed 10 shots with five of them on frame. The Quakers held a convincing 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
