MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller to Ohio Northern University Friday (Oct. 12) evening. The Polar Bears escaped with the 3-2 win after posting set scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 24-26 and 15-7. Ohio Northern is 19-5 overall and 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Pioneers fall to 13-8 on the season and 2-3 in league play.

Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights)# led the Pioneer attack with 19 kills and five blocks. Senior outside hitter #
Alex VanGundy (Powell/Olentangy Liberty)# added 13 kills and also had five blocks.

Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green)# and freshman right-side hitter #
Keri Horton (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial)# each chipped in with 12 kills.
Sophomore setter #
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North)# had a match-high 57 assists and blocked four Polar Bear attacks. She norched 13 digs as well. Senior libero #
Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston)# led all players with 37 digs in the match.
Junior middle hitter Julia Fuerst paced Ohio Northern with 15 kills. Freshman middle hitter Kaitlann Hogrefe recorded 10 kills and a match-high nine blocks.
