After battling through a scoreless first half, senior midfielder
Dustin Zimmerman (Hebron/Granville Christian Academy) got the Pioneers on the board with an unassisted goal in the 48th minute. Zimmerman added his second unassisted goal of the match two minutes later giving Marietta a 2-0 lead.
James Hice scored Mount St. Joseph's lone goal on a penalty kick in the 65th minute of play.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta) had two saves in net for Marietta, while Tyler Kenyon made three stops for The Mount.
For the match Mount St. Joseph outshot the Pioneers 13 to 10 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Marietta plays the College of Wooster next Friday, September 16th at 3 p.m. in the OAC/NCAC Festival hosted by Kenyon College. The Pioneers square off against the host school on Sunday, September 18th at 3:30 p.m.
