XENIA, Ohio — The No. 1 Marietta College baseball team closed out its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule with a 10-0 and 14-5 doubleheader sweep of Wilmington College Friday (May 6) afternoon at Athletes in Action Stadium. [

The Pioneers, who improved to a nation's best 33-3 overall, finished league play with a 17-1 record. The 17-1 mark ties the program's 1991 squad for the second-best record in the history of the OAC since it combined divisions in 1985. Marietta's 1994 and 1999 teams went an undefeated 18-0 to set the gold standard for OAC baseball.
The Etta Express, who posted a .391 batting average and 1.95 ERA against its league opponents this season, kept building momentum for postseason play against the Quakers, who finished the year 9-20 overall and 4-12 in the OAC. Marietta compiled 24 runs on 30 hits while holding Wilmington to five runs on nine hits over 16 innings.

Brian Gasser (New Philadelphia/Indian Valley)# remained undefeated and earned his tenth win in 10 starts after scattering a walk and two hits over the first six innings of the opener. Gasser (10-0) struck out seven and lowered his ERA to a team-best 0.89.
Sophomore #
Michael Radvansky (Toronto/Toronto)# worked a perfect seventh to preserve Marietta's 11th shutout of the season.

Marietta scored a run in the first before breaking the game open with a three-run fifth and four-run sixth. The Pioneers then capped the scoring with their final two runs in the seven en route to the 10-0 victory.
Junior #
Mike Mahaffey (Worthington/Bishop Watterson)# worked seven strong innings in game two to improve his record to 2-0. The right-hander scattered two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out seven. Freshman #

The Pioneers, who collected 16 hits in game two, quickly jumped ahead with a four-run first. Wilmington answered with two runs in its first at-bat only for Marietta to follow with a run in the second and three in the third. The Etta Express tacked on a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh before the Quakers got back in the scoring column with a three-run eighth. Marietta, however, responded with a two-run ninth and rolled to the 14-5 win.

Aaron Hopper (Wheelersburg/Wheelersburg)#, who hit a two-run home run, added a pair of hits in the game. Snyder extended his hitting streak to a season-best 14 games, while Hopper drove in a game-high three runs.
Marietta remains on the road to visit La Roche College at 2 p.m. Saturday (May 7) in a non-conference doubleheader. It is the final scheduled tune-up for next week's
OAC Tournament, which is slated for May 12-14 at Don Schaly Stadium. However, the Pioneers may play a non-conference opponent Monday (May 9) but no details have been finalized at this time.
