Marietta takes second shot at 2011 championship

5/31/2011 3:32:00 PM

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — The Etta Express hit a road bump Tuesday afternoon, losing its first game of the NCAA Division III World Series against Chapman University. [Box Score]

Both teams are currently facing off for second time today. The winner of the second game will be the 2011 World Series Champions. This is the 21st appearance that Marietta College has made at the D3 World Series. If successful today, the Pioneers will have clinched the fifth title—the most of any Division III college.

Chapman (37-12) began pulling away from the Pioneers (46-4) in the third inning after scoring four unearned runs. It was the first time since May 12 that the Pioneers trailed in a game. Marietta began its rally in the bottom of the fifth, when they got on the board with four runs.

By the end, however, Chapman took the game 15-4 to snap Marietta's 22-game win streak.
