ADA, Ohio – The Ohio Northern University women's basketball team defeated Marietta College by the score of 80-36 Saturday (Dec. 17) afternoon. The Polar Bears raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game and never looked back. [Box Score]

Marietta falls to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Ohio Northern improves to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in league play.

Northern's Morgan Dumbaugh led all scorers with 20 points. Kara Dysert notched a double-double for the Polar Bears with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Junior #Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central)# paced the Pioneers with eight points and six rebounds. Freshman #Bailey Topf (Sugar Grove/Logan)# added seven points, while freshman #Lindsay Deemer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum)# grabbed six boards.

Cold shooting and too many turnovers plagued the Pioneers in the opening period. Ohio Northern took advantage and built a 26-point lead at the intermission, 41-15. Marietta shot just 20% in the first half hitting 5-of-25 from the floor and committed 15 turnovers.

Ohio Northern gradually increased their lead in the second period. For the game, the Polar Bears shot 45.2 % (28-of-62) from the floor, 50% (5-of-10) from long range and 65.5% (19-of-29) from the free throw line.

Marietta ended the day 12-of-48 (25%) from the floor. The Pioneers shot 16.7% (2-of-12) from three-point range and was a perfect 1-of-10 from the charity stripe.

Ohio Northern won the battle of the boards, 46-31, and had 14 turnovers to Marietta's 27.

The Pioneers are off until after Christmas when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to play in the Ohio Wesleyan Hoops for Hope Tournament. Marietta plays Ursuline on December 29th at 8 p.m.
