ERIE, Pa. – The Marietta College women's basketball team fell to the host school, 72-58, in the championship of the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament. The Pioneers move to 2-1 on the season while the Lions improve to 2-0. [

Trailing 35-33 at the half, Penn State took advantage of Marietta's cold shooting in the second period to pull out the victory. The Pioneers shot just 21-percent in the second half as the Lions outscored Marietta, 39-23.
Junior Aly Eagle scored on a fast break with 15:11 remaining in the game to give Penn State the lead, 39-38, for good. The Lions used a 12-0 run in the middle of the period to erase a five-point deficit and build a seven-point lead, 45-38.

Sierra Sigman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace)# was fouled on a layup and converted the free throw for a three-point play followed by a layup from classmate #
Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn)# trimmed Behrend's lead to two, 45-43, with thirteen minutes remaining.
The Pioneers suffered a cold spell and scored just two points over the next five minutes allowing the Lion lead to climb back into double digits, 57-45. Marietta would get no closer than five points the rest of the way.
Junior #Kristeva Rowe# and sophomore #
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County)# each scored nine points to lead the Pioneers. Both were named to the all-tournament team.

Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier)# grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Junior #
Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central)# and Alexander each added seven points and six boards.
Penn State was lead by tournament MVP Brittany Wilwohl and Julia Myers who each had 17 points. Myers pulled down a game-best nine rebounds.
The Pioneers are off until next weekend when they host the 27th annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot. Marietta plays Mount St. Joseph at 6 p.m. next Saturday. Pitt Greensburg and Brescia meet at 8 p.m. The consolation and championship games are slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
