THE RECORDS: Marietta enters the third game and fourth week of the season with a record of 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. It marks the sixth time since the 2000 season that the Pioneers enter their third game with a .500 record. John Carroll University carries a 0-2 overall record into Saturday's game and is also 0-1 in league play.

GAME TIME: 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, Ohio.

THE COACHES: Marietta's Jeff Filkovski is in his third season as the leader of the Pioneers. He is the former signal caller for the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe. Filkovski, who earned his bachelor's degree from Allegheny College in 1991, led the Gators to a national championship in 1990. John Carroll's Regis Scafe is in his 12th year as the Blue Streaks head football coach. The 1971 graduate of Case Western Reserve has a 74-44 record at John Carroll.

ALL-TIME SERIES:
Saturday marks the 23rd time that the two teams will meet on the gridiron. The series began in 1929 with John Carroll winning 25-6. The Blue Streaks have never lost to the Pioneers and hold a 21-0-1 lead in the series. The tie came in week three of 1995 when Marietta finished the season 8-1-1.

LAST MEETING: Marietta held host John Carroll to one touchdown, but the Blue Streaks connected on five field goals and forced five Pioneer turnovers en route to a 22-0 victory at Don Shula Stadium on Oct. 10, 2009. John Carroll compiled 294 yards of total offense, rushing for 150 yards and passing for 144 yards. Marietta finished with 164 total yards, 60 yards on the ground and 104 yards through the air.

WATCH THE ACTION: Today's game is being broadcast on tape delay by SportsTime Ohio. It will air in its entirety Saturday at 11 p.m. Fans can also watch the game live online at http://www.ustream.tv/user/JCUSports.

RADIO COVERAGE: Marietta College is scheduled to have WMRT-FM 88.3, its student radio station, broadcast the game for Pioneer fans. The broadcast will take the air with a short pregame at 1:50 p.m. John Carroll University will also have its student station cover the game for its fans.

NEXT GAME: On Oct. 2, Marietta will visit Berea, Ohio, for a match-up with Baldwin-Wallace College at 1:30 p.m. John Carroll University will visit Westerville, Ohio, for a match-up with Otterbein University at 1:30 p.m.

85TH SEASON OF OAC PLAY: Saturday's game will continue Marietta's 85th season of football in the OAC. The Pioneers, who joined the league in 1926, are 171-315-11 (.355) all-time in Conference play.

THIS WEEK IN THE OAC: Nine of the 10 OAC schools are in action in week four. In addition to the Marietta at John Carroll match-up at 2 p.m., Capital hosts non-conference foe Wesley, Muskingum visits Ohio Northern, Mount Union travels to Wilmington and Heidelberg welcomes Otterbein. All these games are at 1:30 p.m.

CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED: Marietta College will have four captains during the 2010 season: senior offensive lineman Cameron Kiger (Rockbridge/Logan), senior fullback Rich Klingel (Marion/River Valley), senior defensive lineman Pete Santagate (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and senior defensive lineman Adam Tate (Chesterhill/Federal Hocking).

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT: The OAC has two teams ranked in the D3football.com Top 25: #2 Mount Union and #10 Ohio Northern. Otterbein and Baldwin-Wallace also received votes.

NATIONAL REPRESENTATION: Marietta's roster currently features 94 total student-athletes—52 from Ohio, 12 from Florida, 8 from Pennsylvania, 4 from Texas, 3 from West Virginia, 2 from California, Georgia, Maryland and South Carolina, 1 from Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York.

GETTING OFF TO A QUICK START: Marietta will look to get off to a fast start out of the locker room after struggling in the first half in recent years. The Pioneers were out scored 85-20 in the first quarter and 105-30 in the second quarter of 2009.

CONTROLLING THE CLOCK: Marietta will look to dominate the time of possession in 2010. Last year, the Pioneers led in time of possession in five games. This year, Marietta will look improve that number and to turn that time into more points on the scoreboard.

TURNOVERS: Marietta needs to improve its turnover margin. In 2009, the Pioneers ranked 10th in the OAC and 222nd in NCAA Division III with a -14 turnover margin. Marietta enters week four with a +3 turnover margin.

DID YOU KNOW: Marietta's safety against Muskingum was the first such score for the Pioneers since the same teams met in 2005.

TAKE A KID TO THE GAME DAY: Mark your calendar for Oct. 9 when Marietta will once again participate in the national “Take a Kid to the Game” program. Kids, ages 14 and younger, will receive a free ticket with the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket ($5) to watch the Pioneers and Purple Raiders battle in Ohio Athletic Conference football action. It will also be Youth Day at Don Drumm Stadium.

HOMECOMING: Mark your calendar for Oct. 29-31 when Marietta will celebrate Homecoming 2010. A full weekend of activities will be centered around the Pioneers' OAC battle with Ohio Northern University.
