Kevin Knab (Lakewood, Lakewood) scored a career-high 30 points, but Marietta College could not protect a late lead in an 83-73 loss at Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday (Jan. 30) afternoon. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 11-8 overall and 6-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). The Pioneers fell to 8-11, 4-8 in league play. [

Knab, who scored a game-high 22 points in the first meeting between the two teams, dominated Baldwin-Wallace again with 30 points by hitting 12-of-18 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. He also pulled down a game-best seven rebounds. No other Pioneer reached double figures. Seniors
Daun Lutes (New Matamoras, Frontier) and
Matt Kubachka (Shade, Alexander) both added eight points, while freshman
Jason Humphrey (Naples, Fla., Barron Collier) had seven in the loss.
Zane Meeder paced the Yellow Jackets with 16 points, hitting 10-of-11 from the charity stripe. Chris Ameen had 12 points, while Ed Householder and Kyle Brown both finished with nine points in the win.
With Marietta led by 8-4 early in the first period. A 9-0 run by Baldwin-Wallace helped it take a 13-8 advantage with 16:06 to play in the half. A layup by Kubachka knotted the game up at 36-26 eight minutes later. The game was tied for a sixth time, 32-32, with 3:39 remaining in the half. The Yellow Jackets closed the period on a 11-4 run to enter the break ahead 43-36.
Baldwin-Wallace scored the first five points of the second half to boost its lead to 12 points, 48-36. Marietta battled back to tie the score at 58-58 with 9:10 to play and regained the lead on a jumper by Knab moments later. The Pioneers built their lead to seven points, 71-64, as the teams entered the final four minutes. A 15-0 Yellow Jacket run quickly erased the advantage and put the home team on top by eight points, 79-71, with 40 second left on the clock. Marietta could not overcome the scoring drought and fell 83-73.
Baldwin-Wallace out rebounded Marietta 31-26 and overcame 19 turnovers in the win. The Pioneers turned the ball over 17 times in the loss.
Marietta is back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 3) night when the Pioneers play host to Capital University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
