MARIETTA, Ohio — Senior forward
Seita Kawamoto (Ebina, Kanagaua, Japan) found the back of the net with just 16 second remaining to give the Marietta College men's soccer team the 1-0 victory over visiting Mount St. Joseph Friday (Sept. 11) afternoon at Marietta Field. [
Box Score]
The win helped the Pioneers improve to 2-1-1, while the Lions fell to 1-3 on the year.
Marietta controlled the possession for the majority of the game, out shooting Mount St. Joseph 22-6 overall and 8-0 in shots on goal.
The Lions defense, however, fought off attack after attack and kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard until the 90th minute. Freshman defender
Ben Federici (Findlay, Findlay) set up Kawamoto's game-winning goal with a pass to the left side of the box, allowing Kawamoto to beat the keeper with a shot from 10-yards out to give his squad the victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Andrew Shannon (Cincinnati, Mariemont) did not have to make a save while earning his second shutout of the season. Mount St. Joseph's Max Hoffman had six saves in the loss.
Marietta will look to keep the momentum building when it travels to Thomas More College on Sunday for a non-conference match-up at 3 p.m.
