MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team captured the 25th annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot title with a 79-69 victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph Sunday (Nov. 29) afternoon at Ban Johnson Arena. With the win, the Pioneers claimed their 12th Turkey Shoot crown and first since 2003. Thiel College defeated Oberlin College, 75-63, in Sunday's consolation game. The tournament was sponsored by CiCi's Pizza, Dixie Sporting Goods, the Hampton Inn and the Microtel Inn & Suites.

Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) led all scorers with 19 points and collected a game-high 13 rebounds to lead Marietta past Mount St. Joseph 79-69 in the championship game of the 25th annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot Sunday (Nov. 29) afternoon inside Ban Johnson Arena.
Guiler recorded her second straight double-double of the weekend. Sophomore
Rachel Jones (Dublin/Coffman) added 14 points and joined Guiler on the All-Tournament team. In addition, freshman
Kodi Brenner (Brookfield/Brookfield) scored a career-high 12 points, while senior
Whitney Swain (Belpre/Warren Local) chipped in with 10 points. Guiler, Swain, Jones and freshman
Heather Blair (Upper Arlington/Newark Catholic) all had 4 assists in the win.
Tricia Siemer and Katie Jo Collins both scored 12 points for Lions, earning them spots on the All-Tournament team. Chelsea Drake also chipped in with 11 points off the bench for the Lions.
Marietta (2-2) shot a blistering 52.6% (30-of-57) from the field compared to the Lions (3-3), who shot 39.7% (27-of-68) in the game. The Pioneers also out-shot the Lions from long range. Marietta finished 5-of-15 (33.3%) from behind the arc, while Mount St. Joseph went only 2-of-10 (20.0%) from three-point land. Marietta also led in free throw shooting, hitting 14-of-19 (73.7%) from the charity stripe. The Lions, meanwhile, went 13-of-21 (.619) from the free throw line.

Thiel's strong first half enabled it to hold on a defeat Oberlin 75-63 and capture the consolation game of the 25th annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot Tournament Sunday (Nov. 29) afternoon at Ban Johnson Arena on the campus of Marietta College.
A balanced attacked helped the Tomcats improve to 1-3 on the season. All-Tournament Team honoree Ashley Davis led the way with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Kelly Barzak had 10 points. Kasey Landis, who added 9 rebounds, Nina Gabrelcik and Jasmin Jones all contributed 9 points in the victory.
Syrea Thomas, who was also named to the All-Tournament Team, and Allison Anderson both finished with 24 points for Oberlin, who fell to 1-3. Thomas also had a game-best 11 rebounds, while Anderson added 8 rebounds and 5 assists in the loss.
Thiel led wire-to-wire and entered intermission on top by 15 points, 47-32. The advantage grew to 21 points early in the second half. The Yeowomen fought their way back to within 8 points, 68-60, with 3 minutes to play. The Tomcats, however, held on for the 75-63 win.
Thiel shot 49.0% (25-of-51) from the floor, including 62.1% (18-of-29) in the first half, while Oberlin finished 26.8% (19-of-71) on the day. The Tomcats out-rebounded the Yeowomen 44-40 and overcame 19 turnovers. Oberlin turned the ball over 10 times and hit just 5-of-28 (17.9%) from long range in the loss.
