COLUMBUS, Ohio — With its back against the wall, Marietta turned to Eric Shoup who delivered a gutsy performance on the mound in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional.
Shoup (2-2) struck out eight batters while allowing six hits and four runs over nine innings as the Pioneers defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin Wallace 8-4 at Ohio State University.
The Pioneers' offense provided ample support, with Mike Brandts leading the charge. Brandts went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, providing a crucial power boost to Marietta's lineup. Bill Holmes and Kirk Atha also contributed significantly, each going 2-for-5 at the plate. Sean Risley added a hit and showcased his speed with a stolen base.
For Baldwin Wallace, Jim Magazine stood out in the losing effort, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
This victory allows Marietta (41-12-2) to advance in the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
