COLUMBUS, Ohio — Marietta continued its fight through the loser's bracket of the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional with a commanding 15-8 victory over MacMurray State on Friday, May 23, at Ohio State University.
The Pioneers' offense fired on all cylinders, led by Jeff Marbaugh who crushed two doubles. Frank Schossler added to the power display with a solo home run. Roger Thompson had a stellar day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Mike Brandts and Bill Holmes each contributed two hits and three RBI to the offensive onslaught. Sean Risley also had a productive game, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and a stolen base for the Pioneers (42-12-2).
On the mound, John Hamborsky (8-2) turned in a strong performance for Marietta. He struck out seven batters and allowed just three hits over six innings to secure the win.
For MacMurray State, Kenneth Gand went 2-for-2 with an RBI in the losing effort. Rick Neville also contributed, recording a single, a sacrifice fly, and three RBI.
