Marietta needs an extra game to win OAC Tournament title

BEREA — Marietta's Jim Anderson (5-0) delivered a stellar performance on the mound, allowing just one run on nine hits over 7 2/3 innings as the Pioneers defeated Ohio Northern 12-2 to win the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament championship on Saturday, May 17.
 
After dropping the first game of the day to the Polar Bears 8-6, the Etta Express (39-11-2) focused on the winner-take-all game at Baldwin Wallace.
 
The Pioneers' offense provided ample support, with Mike Brandts leading the charge by going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored.
 
Frank Schossler contributed to the offensive outburst, going 2-for-5 with three RBI. Bill Holmes, Sean Risley, and Roger Thompson each added two hits to the winning effort. For Ohio Northern, Brian Ramsey went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the losing cause.
 
The day began with Ohio Northern forcing a second game by defeating Marietta 8-6. The Polar Bears were paced by Bill Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Rob Weber chipped in with two hits and an RBI. Scott Seeburg earned the win for ONU, allowing six runs on 11 hits over 8 2/3 innings.
 
In the losing effort, Marietta's Drew Witouski went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Roger Thompson collected three hits. John Hamborsky took the loss for the Pioneers, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits.
