Marietta sweeps doubleheader against Centre College

DANVILLE, Ky. — Marietta College continued its strong start to the season by sweeping a doubleheader against Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, on Sunday, March 16. The Pioneers dominated the opener with a 17-2 victory before securing a closer 7-4 win in the nightcap.

Roger Thompson led the offensive charge for Marietta, going a combined 5-for-10 across both games with three RBI and three runs scored. Thompson's power was on display in the second game as he launched a home run to help secure the victory.

Mike Brandts also had an outstanding day at the plate, finishing the doubleheader 5-for-7 with three RBI and five runs scored. Brandts showcased his extra-base power with two doubles and a home run, continuing his hot streak from the Florida trip.

In the first game, Steve Oberhelman turned in a dominant pitching performance for the Pioneers. Oberhelman went the distance, striking out eight batters while scattering seven hits in the complete-game win.

The second game saw John Hamborsky come up big in relief, striking out three and not allowing a hit over 3 1/3 innings to earn the victory. Marietta's pitching staff impressed throughout the day, limiting Centre to just 11 hits across both games.

These wins demonstrate Marietta's ability to excel in both high-scoring affairs and tighter contests. The team's combination of explosive offense and strong pitching continues to be a winning formula as they progress through their early-season schedule.
