PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Marietta College continued its winning ways on Saturday, March 15, securing a hard-fought 9-8 victory over Tennessee Tech. The win improved the Pioneers' record to an impressive 10-3-2 on their Florida trip.
 
The game was a showcase of offensive firepower, with Marietta's bats leading the charge. Sean Risley, Roger Thompson, and Bob Beamer each launched home runs for the Pioneers, providing the power that ultimately made the difference in the close contest.
 
Risley finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI, continuing his stellar performance at the plate. Thompson matched Risley's hit total, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Beamer had an equally productive day, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Eric Shoup also contributed to the offensive effort with two hits.
 
On the mound, Steve Gerkin picked up his first win of the season in relief. Despite allowing two runs on one hit in his inning of work, Gerkin's effort was enough to secure the victory. Steve Oberhelman closed out the game with a perfect sixth inning, earning his first save of the season.
 
For Tennessee Tech, Steve Hawkins put up a valiant effort in the losing cause, collecting two hits, including a home run, and driving in five runs.
 
The victory was sealed when Marietta pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning, showcasing their ability to perform in clutch situations.
