PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Marietta College continued its strong run on Thursday, March 13, defeating Washington (Mo.) 9-4 to improve its record to 8-3-1 on the Florida trip. The victory marked the Pioneers' third straight win, showcasing their growing momentum.
Chuck Hillman (1-0) turned in a stellar performance on the mound for Marietta, going the distance with a complete game. Hillman struck out seven batters while scattering six hits, demonstrating his dominance throughout the contest.
Offensively, Sean Risley had a day to remember, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base. Risley's all-around performance at the plate set the tone for Marietta's potent attack.
The Pioneers showcased their power with an impressive total of eight doubles in the game. Mike Brandts led the extra-base hit parade with three doubles as part of his perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate. Darrin Spitzer, Kirk Atha, and Frank Schossler each contributed a double to the team's offensive outburst.
Drew Witouski also made his presence felt, driving in three runs with one hit and a sacrifice fly.
For Washington, Carroll Foggie provided most of the offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
