PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Marietta College continued its impressive run on Monday, March 10, notching a 6-0 shutout victory over Washington (Mo.). The win marked the Pioneers' second triumph of the day and improved their record to 4-1-1.
Pitcher Jim Anderson was the star of the show, turning in a masterful performance on the mound. Anderson went the distance, allowing just four hits while striking out five in a complete-game shutout. His dominant outing kept Washington's offense at bay throughout the contest.
At the plate, Sean Risley continued his torrid hitting streak in Florida. The red-hot Risley went a perfect 4-for-4, including two doubles, and drove in three runs. He also showcased his speed on the basepaths with a stolen base. Risley's performance at the top of the order set the tone for Marietta's offense.
Roger Thompson provided excellent protection behind Risley in the lineup, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. The one-two punch of Risley and Thompson proved too much for Washington's starting pitcher Matt Feigenbaum to handle.
Bill Holmes, coming off his strong game earlier in the day, contributed two more hits to the Pioneers' cause, further demonstrating the depth of Marietta's lineup.
