SPRINGFIELD — Monte Duncan enjoyed a five-hit day to lead Marietta to two victories over Wittenberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Monday, May 9.
Duncan went 2-for-5 in a 10-2 win in the opener, and went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in a 9-5 victory in game two.
Mark Talarico had three hits, including a double, and three RBI in the opener. Jim Pancher went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, while Dave Thomas had two hits and four runs in the win. Jon Shuler added two RBI.
Jim Katschke (4-0) allowed four hits and struck out three over 6 2/3 innings for the Pioneers (37-7, 9-2). In the second game, Terry Mulholland (12-0) notched the win after striking out four and allowing one hit over 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Marietta scored four in the ninth to pull out the win. Jeff Chaney, who replaced Gary Kohls at catcher late in the game, doubled home Shuler and Jeff Wiktorski. Duncan also scored on an error by shortstop Jim Borkey.
Pancher added a two-run homer in the first inning.
