MARIETTA — Marietta flexed its muscles again by banging out 38 hits and scoring 32 runs as the Pioneers cruised to two victories over Denison in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Pioneer Park on Saturday, May 14.
In the opener, an 18-7 win, Jim Pancher, Jon Shuler, Marty Sberna, and Jeff Chaney each had three hits. Chaney belted a two-run home run in the third inning to give Marietta (41-7, 12-2) an 8-4 lead.
John Hefner came off the bench and belted a triple that scored Jon Finke, and Monte Duncan had a triple in a five-run second inning that scored Sberna.
Jim Katschke (5-0) allowed 10 hits and walked three, but picked up the complete-game win. In the second game, Steve Riley (6-1) struck out seven and gave up four runs and one-earned run for another complete-game victory.
Chaney went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, while Mark Talarico was 2-for-3 with one RBI. John Hefner went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI.
