NEW CONCORD — Marietta catcher Gary Kohls belted a two-run home run and ace Terry Mulholland was nearly unhittable as the Pioneers defeated rival Muskingum 8-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday, April 5.
Mulholland struck out four and allowed one hit over six innings to improve to 6-0 on the season. Muskingum did manage individual runs in the seventh and eighth innings off reliever Steve Riley, before Roger Hart threw a perfect ninth inning.
Jon Shuler went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI, while Riley added a double for the Pioneers (19-5, 1-0). Dave Thomas walked three times and stole two bases. Craig Miracle went 2-for-2 for the Muskies.
