MARIETTA — Terry Mulholland may only be a sophomore, but the Marietta ace continues to dominate conference hitters.
The lefty allowed four hits and struck out eight as the Etta Express (32-7, 7-2) defeated long-time rival Muskingum 11-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Saturday, April 30, at Pioneer Park. However, the Muskies won the second game 8-4 behind Ray Biondi's strong pitching.
In the first game, Marietta banged out 13 hits as second baseman Jim Pancher went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Center fielder Marty Sberna went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a stolen base. Third baseman Steve Riley added two hits and two RBI.
In the second game, Muskingum scored three runs in the second and seventh innings as Jim Kennedy took the loss for Marietta. Biondi scattered eight hits and walked six, but held Marietta to four runs — two of those coming in the bottom of the seventh.
Doug DeVito led the Muskies with two hits, including a home run and two RBI, while Craig Miracle had one hit and two RBI.
Pancher went 2-for-3 with a double for the Pioneers, while Riley went 2-for-4. Left fielder Bill Varley had a double and shortstop Jeff Wiktorski went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
