MARIETTA — Marietta's Dale Hurst has pitched better games, but the Pioneer ace toughed it out for a complete-game 10-4 victory over Denison at Pioneer Park on Thursday, May 7. In the second game, Dave Stovall stymied the Big Red in a 10-1 complete-game win.
Stovall (5-0) gave up six hits and struck out five while giving up one unearned run.
In the first game, Marietta (42-3-3, 13-2) scored 10 runs over the first four innings, which was plenty for Hurst (10-2) who scattered six hits and struck out four. He also gave up six walks and three earned runs.
Dan Munday led the offensive attack by going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a triple. John Schaly went 3-for-5 with an RBI, double and three runs. Jon Shuler added two hits and two RBI.
Schaly went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Chris Risley had a homer and two RBI in the second game. Munday and Tom Mohl added doubles in the win.
