MARIETTA — The Etta Express used a six-run fourth inning to defeat Division I Wright State 11-6 in the first game of a doubleheader at Pioneer Park on Saturday, May 2. The Pioneers also won the second game 7-2 to improve to 40-3-3.
In the decisive fourth inning, Marietta's Steve Yurchak got things going with a two-run home run to right center. Jon Shuler singled home Marty Sberna and John Schaly scored on an error. Tom Gammiere singled home Shuler. Tom Mohl scored the final run of the inning on Dan Munday's single.
Jim Pancher and Schaly each went 2-for-4. Schaly also had a solo homer. Dale Hurst improved to 9-2 after giving up only one earned run.
In the second game, Dave Stovall tossed seven strong innings, allowing two runs and striking out five to improve to 7-0.
Ken Lisko went 2-for-3 with a homer, while Steve Riley went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Gammiere also went 2-for-3.
