MARIETTA — Marietta used a nine-run first inning to provide the Pioneers with enough cushion to pull out a 13-7 victory in the first game of the OAC Baseball Tournament at Pioneer Park on Friday, May 15.
Marietta (50-4-3) banged out 10 hits, which included a three-run home run by catcher Dan Munday. Munday finished the game at 3-for-4 with five RBI, a two-run homer in the fourth inning and a double in the sixth.
Hitting in the lead-off spot, second baseman John Schaly went 4-for-5 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI. Center fielder Marty Sberna went 2-for-4 with two RBI, third baseman Ken Lisko went 2-for-5 with an RBI and left fielder Jon Shuler went 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs.
Dale Hurst improved to 11-2 on the season after giving up six runs and 12 hits over six innings. Jerry Bishop got his second save by throwing the final three innings.
Wooster managed 14 hits, including three each from Dave King and Mark Kraus. The Fighting Scots also got homers from Mike Knox, Jim Stehlin and Steve Czwalga. King, who threw just two-thirds of an inning took the loss and dropped to 3-2 on the mound.
