MARIETTA — The Etta Express wrapped up a 56-game regular season by splitting a doubleheader with Point Park on Tuesday, May 12, at Pioneer Park.
Marietta (49-4-3) won the opener 4-3 and dropped the second game 9-5. MC used the non-conference games as a way to prep for the OAC Tournament on Friday, May 15, against Wooster.
Tom Gammiere went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Ken Lisko and Mark Talarico each had a single and one RBI. With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Talarico singled home Jim Pancher with the winning run.
Marietta used three pitchers and Roger Hart (4-0) notched the victory in relief after throwing three innings and striking out four.
In the second game, Marietta jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead, but Point Park chipped away and had a 5-4 lead going into the eighth inning. That's when Point Park scored three runs — all with two outs — on three hits.
Stu Mayer got things going with an RBI triple, and he scored on a passed ball. Neil Bassi drove in the other run a single.
Jim Hoffman had a solo homer for Point Park, while Joe DeCarlo went 2-for-5 and Mayer went 2-for-3.
Tom Mohl paced Marietta with three hits and two RBI and a double, while Talarico had two hits in the loss.
