PANAMA CITY, Fla. — The Etta Express sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring six runs on just one hit as Marietta (3-0-1) defeated Western Kentucky 9-5 on Monday, March 9.
Sophomore right fielder Mark Talarico had the only hit of the inning — a single to right-center that scored senior Steve Morman and sophomore Jon Shuler. The Hilltoppers aided the Pioneers with five errors in the inning (they had eight for the game).
Also scoring for Marietta in the first inning was Marty Sberna, Tom Mohl, Dan Munday and Steve Riley. Munday went 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Freshman Ron Fama (1-0) allowed eight hits and five runs over six innings for the win. Fellow freshman, Roger Hart, pitched the final two innings for his first save of the season.
