PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Behind a five-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning, Marietta defeated Illinois State 8-7 on Tuesday, March 10.
Junior Tom Gammiere blasted a two-run home run to left-center off Illinois State starter Duane Johnson to pull the Pioneers within two at 7-5. Jon Shuler, Marty Sberna and Pat Horne also scored in the inning for the win.
Junior Steve Yurchak went 2-for-3 with a run, while sophomore Mark Talarico had a single and one RBI. Sophomore Steve Riley (1-0) tossed the final 2 1/3 innings for the win.
Mike Mayerck went 2-for-3 with two RBI for Illinois State.
