MARIETTA — Marietta put up a 12-spot in both games of a doubleheader to sweep West Virginia State 12-1 and 12-11 at Pioneer Park on Thursday, March 26.
Junior Dale Hurst improved to 4-1 after striking out eight and allowing just three hits in six innings of work in the first game.
The Etta Express banged out 15 hits, including three each from Mark Talarico, Tom Mohl and Dan Munday. However, it was Chris Risley who powered the offense with two home runs and four RBI.
Risley stayed hot at the plate in the second game as he went 4-for-4 with a triple, four RBI and two runs. Munday also went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Ted Payne (4-0) picked up the win for Marietta (18-1-2) after getting the final out in the sixth inning of the second game.
The Yellow Jackets had 10 hits and scored eight runs in the third inning. Jeff Nelson, Mike Curry, Donnie Dent and Chuck Carr each had two hits.
