MARIETTA — The Etta Express scored 19 runs and amassed 21 hits as Marietta allowed only one run in a doubleheader sweep of West Virginia — 6-0 and 13-1 — at Pioneer Park on Saturday, March 21.
Junior Dale Hurst (3-1) recorded six strikeouts and allowed one hit and one walk in the first game for the Pioneers (14-1-2). Junior John Burns (4-0) scattered five hits and struck out three over 6 1/3 innings for the win.
Junior Ken Lisko and sophomore Jim Pancher led the Pioneers on offense. Lisko went a combined 4-for-6 with three runs and two RBI, as well as four stolen bases. Pancher was 5-for-5 with four runs and four RBI. He also had three stolen bases.
The Pioneers scored three runs off Ed Koch in the first inning of Game 1, and four runs off Dave Rohaus in the first inning of Game 2.
Also in the second game, sophomore Marty Sberna went 3-for-5 with three RBI and Junior Tom Gammiere went 2-for-5 with one RBI. Sophomore Jon Shuler came off the bench and went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
