MARIETTA — Junior Tom Gammiere went a combined 3-for-5 with two doubles and a grand slam as Marietta swept Charleston (W.Va.) in a non-conference doubleheader at Pioneer Park on Wednesday, March 18.
Gammiere's fourth-inning grand slam in the fourth inning sparked the Pioneers (12-1-2) to an 11-5 victory in the first game. Junior Ken Lisko went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while junior John Schaly added a double and one RBI.
Junior starter Dale Hurst pitched three strong innings, and was followed by sophomore Ted Payne (2-0) who earned the win with two solid innings on the mound.
In the second game, junior Steve Yurchak belted a two-run triple, while senior Dan Munday went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a double as the Etta Express won 9-4. Junior Chris Risley added two hits, including a double, and two RBI.
Junior starter John Burns (3-0) struck out three for the win.
Charleston's Joe Fisher went 3-for-7 with three RBI in the doubleheader.
