PANAMA CITY, Fla. — For the first time this season, Marietta suffered a loss on the baseball diamond.
Leading 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Pioneers gave up four runs to Illinois State and lost 4-2 on Saturday, March 14.
Illinois State's Rick Powell, Tom Hennrich and Mike Bock were all walked to start the inning. Powell scored when Lynn Wade singled to center off Marietta reliever Dale Hurst (2-1), who took the loss. Hennrich scored on a fielder's choice by Bryan Romac.
Powell and Jim Pacanowski each had two hits for Illinois State.
Marietta sophomore Steve Riley went 3-for-3, including a double and one RBI. Junior John Schaly had a single and scored a run, while senior Steve Morman had a double.
