Dr. Bob Howard became the 11th head coach in Marietta College volleyball history in the spring of 2015.
Howard comes to Marietta College with over 30 years of coaching experience. During that span he has coached both men’s and women’s intercollegiate volleyball, USAV Junior Olympic club and high school ball. Additionally, he has also taught in Exercise Science and directed campus recreation at the college level.
Howard most recently coached at Austin College where he assisted the Kangaroos to two consecutive 20-win seasons and two conference tournament appearances.
Prior to working with Austin College Howard was the head coach at the University of Dallas. In his four years at Dallas he led the Crusaders to an 81-72 record, including a school record 26 wins and .703 winning percentage in 2010-11. Under his guidance the Dallas volleyball team earned their first and only NCAA tournament appearance in 2009.
Howard originally hails from California where he both played and coached collegiately. He spent the past 15 years, though, coaching in Texas. His previous stops include the University of Dallas, Schreiner University and Wayland Baptist. Howard also worked with the Nortex Junior Olympic volleyball club and coached the North Texas Region’s High Performance Team.
Educationally, Howard received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1973. He earned his Master of Arts Degree in Exercise Science in 1978 from Humboldt State University and a Doctorate of Arts Degree in Physical Education Pedagogy from Middle Tennessee State University in 1993.
