Jill Meiring begins her fifth season as the women’s basketball coach at Marietta College in 2011-12.
Meiring, a former Denison University two-sport standout and Transylvania University assistant coach, has dedicated herself to helping the Pioneers improve each day that they take the floor, which will lay the foundation for the programs success.
"Building the foundation was the motto for last season's team and it will carry over to this year's squad," Meiring said. "We feel that with a solid foundation of hard work, strong fundamentals and fierce energy and enthusiasm, we can be successful in the OAC."
Meiring, the 11th coach in the program’s 34-year history, had been the assistant basketball coach at Transylvania, in Lexington, Kentucky, since 2001. In 2006-07, she helped Transylvania finish 19-9 and make its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Meiring, who served as the interim head coach during the 2005-06 season, also led Transylvania’s field hockey program for four seasons.
Meiring, who majored in Psychology and Sports Management, graduated from Denison in 2001. She was a four-year basketball starter for the Big Red and a team captain as a junior and senior. Meiring was also a four-year member of the Denison softball team. She traveled to Australia with the USAthletes softball team to compete in the Arafura Games as a senior, and the U.S. team won the gold medal.
The Fort Recovery, Ohio, native is a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Meiring, who received her master's degree in physical education from Eastern Kentucky in 2006, has coached extensively in Ohio summer leagues and was the assistant director of the Transylvania Women's Basketball Camp for five years.
"The upperclassmen had a tough season last year, but I know they have worked hard in the off-season and have what it takes to escalate the program," Meiring said. "Our incoming freshmen are sure to bring a fresh perspective and a lot of enthusiasm as well. I'm excited to see this year's team in action."
Meiring lives in Marietta.
