Steve Iman, a United States Professional Tennis Association certified professional, returns to lead the Marietta College men's and women's tennis program beginning in the 2010-11 school year.

“I am very excited to return to coach men’s and women’s tennis here at Marietta College,” Iman said. “I want to thank Mr. Hiser for bringing me back, as well as the rest of the department for the warm welcome.”

The 2011 season will mark Iman's second stint with the men's program. He was Marietta’s head coach from 2002-05. A new era of Pioneer tennis was ushered in with the opening of the Beren Tennis Center in 2003. That year, Iman's squad set a single-season record with eight victories and advanced to the second round of the OAC Tournament.

Prior to joining Marietta in the fall of 2002, Iman spent a year as tennis professional with KTC-Quail Tennis Club in Dayton, Ohio. He implemented the first United States Tennis Association (USTA) Junior Team Tennis Program in Dayton. Iman also coached adult USTA teams while teaching private and group lessons. Iman then taught group and private lessons at the Greenmont Racquet Club in Vienna, W.Va., from 2002-06.

Since 2008, Iman has worked as a service representative, district coordinator and school clinician for the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section, which is based in Reston, Va. He handles the day-to-day activities within the section's 35 West Virginia counties. Iman, who was nominated in 2010 to be a USTA National Trainer, organizes area and regional leagues while providing training to physical education teachers in order to implement tennis into their curriculum.

“I have been very blessed, particularly in the last few years, that tennis has taken me all over the country in my work with the USTA, be it in a grass roots capacity or at an event such as The US Open,” Iman said. “But there is nothing I love more than college tennis. I look forward to getting between the lines with the student-athletes and begin climbing up the ranks of the OAC.”

Iman, a native of Ripley, W.Va., earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from West Virginia University at Parkersburg. He lives in Vienna, W.Va.
