Ray Knight took over as the Head Athletic Trainer at Marietta College in the fall of 2024. Knights came to Marietta after 20-plus years at Sewanee, the University of the South.
Knight started at Sewanee as an intern Athletic Trainer and was promoted to the Head Athletic Trainer position in the fall of 2001 and was elevated to Director of Sports Medicine in the summer of 2022.
At Sewanee, Knight was responsible for the complete medical care for more than 600 student-athletes participating in 24 varsity intercollegiate sports. Prior to the 2013 season, he assisted the NFL Tennessee Titans during their preseason training camp.
Prior to Sewanee, Knight worked with the football and men’s basketball team as a graduate assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He completed his undergraduate Athletic Training degree from East Tennessee State University.
Knight is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA). He served as the Tennessee Athletic Trainers' Society (TATS) Honors and Awards Committee chair and was the Tennessee representative on the Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association (SEATA) Honors and Awards Committee.
In 2008, Knights was honored as the TATS Eugene Smith/Mickey O'Brien College Athletic Trainer of the Year Award recipient.
Knight is originally from Nashville, Tenn. He is married to the former Shannon Kemper of Ooltewah, Tenn., and they have five children, Sara, Adelyn, Cooper, Clara Cate, and Grayson.
