Lucas Poggiali begins his fifth year as an assistant coach at Marietta College in 2021. Poggiali was promoted to offensive coordinator in the spring of 2020 and also coaches the Pioneer quarterbacks.

In his first season as the offensive coordinator, Poggiali's offense featured the leading rusher in the OAC. Bryce Agnew led the conference averaging 105.6 yards per game and tied for the league lead with seven rushing touchdowns.

Under Poggiali's guidance, quarterback Darrien Fields set the Marietta College records for career passing yards (6,380), career total yards (7,146), career touchdowns (62), career passing touchdowns (56), career completions (561) and career completion percentage (67%). He also set the school records for single season TD's (22), single season completions (202), single game passing touchdowns (5) and single game passing yards (414).

After the graduation of Fields, Poggiali mentored first-year starting quarterback Kyle McSweeney to an All-OAC season in 2019. The senior earned honorable mention honors after breaking the school single game record for passing yards with 440 yards against Heidelberg.

Poggiali came to Marietta after serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater Oberlin College, an NCAA Division III member of the North Coast Athletic Conference. In addition to coaching the Yeomen running backs, Poggiali was responsible for recruiting Columbus and Toledo in Ohio, as well as Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin and Colorado.

A four-year varsity letter winner at Oberlin, Poggiali started three games at quarterback as a freshman and was the Yeomen’s top signal caller for the duration of his career. He set the school record for passing yards in a game with 506 in a 48-9 win over Allegheny in 2015.

Poggiali finished his career as Oberlin’s second all-time leader in career passing yards with 5,508 and passing attempts with 945. He ranks third all-time in completions with 478.  Poggiali served as a team captain his junior and senior seasons and was Oberlin’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2015.

Poggiali received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Oberlin College in 2016.
