John Prater, a 2008 graduate of the University of Wyoming, begins his first season coaching the linebackers at Marietta College.
"I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue my coaching career at Marietta College,” Prater said. “I look forward to helping Pioneer Football reach it's maximum potential.”
Prater coached linebackers and was the video coordinator for the last two seasons at NCAA Division II Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. During his time at Augustana, the Vikings made back-to-back bowl appearances in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, all three of Prater's starting linebackers were named All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Prater, a native of Kerrville, Texas, was a four-year letterman as an inside linebacker at Wyoming. He was a member of the 2004 Cowboy team that won the Las Vegas Bowl and the 2006 squad that finished the season ranked ninth in the country in total defense.
Prater graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. He is currently working towards a Masters of Education in Teaching.
Prater and his wife Gwen live in Parkersburg, W.Va., with their son Johnny.
