James Daniels begins his first season as assistant football coach at Marietta College in 2017. He will coach the Pioneer defensive backs and serve as Marietta’s recruiting coordinator.

Daniels comes to Marietta after serving as the running backs coach at Notre Dame College, an NCAA Division III member of the Mountain East Conference, for one season. The Falcons led the conference in rushing last fall and featured first team all-conference running back D.J. Greene.

Daniels began his coaching career at Towson University, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, where he was the defensive quality coach and worked with the team’s safeties during the spring of 2014.

Following his time at Towson, Daniels spent one season at Becker College and then moved to Ohio Northern University for a year. He coached the running backs at both institutions. While at Ohio Northern, Daniels coached All-Ohio Athletic Conference and All-Region running back Justin Magazine, who broke the Polar Bear single season record for touchdowns with 28.

Daniels brings National Championship experience to the Pioneer program. He played collegiately at the University of Mount Union and was a member of the Purple Raiders’ 2008 National Championship team. During his career in Alliance, Mount Union made four straight appearances in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.

Daniels graduated from the University of Mount Union in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sport Business with a minor in Business. He earned a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Mount Union in 2014. Daniels also participated in the 2014 American Football Coaches Association Future Football Coaches Academy.
