Alan Estep begins his sixth year as assistant football coach at Marietta College in 2018. Estep serves as the Pioneers’ assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and coaches the offensive line.
In 2017 Estep’s Pioneer offense had its most productive season, both in points and yards, in over 20 years averaging 30.8 points and 413.9 yards per game. Left tackle Caleb Riggleman earned first team All-OAC and second team All-Region honors on the offensive line.
Estep was named to Ohio Athletic Conference Assistant Coach of the Year following the 2016 season. The Pioneer offense featured All-American running Roger Walker, who was the OAC Bob Packard Most Outstanding Offensive Back after leading the league in rushing during the regular season. In addition to Walker, left tackle Caleb Riggleman earned first team All-OAC honors.

In Estep’s first season as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach the Pioneers saw significant improvements on offense. Estep brought the Pioneers rushing offense, which was ranked tenth in the OAC in 2012 at 40.1 yard per game, to fifth in the OAC at 167.3 yard per game in 2013.  The Pioneers total offense also improved from 252 yards per game in 2012 to 322.7 yards per game in 2013.

Estep managed to coach offensive tackle Tito Jeffries to a second team All-OAC as well as Caleb Hitchcock to an honorable mention in the OAC in 2013.
Estep came to Marietta after serving as an assistant coach at Oberlin College for eight years. He started at Oberlin in 2005 as the special teams coordinator and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2009.
Estep took over as the Yeomen’s offensive line coach in 2006. He managed offensive line sessions in practice and meetings and also assisted the offensive coordinator with game plans in the run game and pass protection.
In 2007, Estep’s offensive line blocked for North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year running back R.V. Carroll who ran for 1,038 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Estep was promoted to associate head coach and offensive coordinator in 2009. He coordinated all aspects of the offense including developing and installing all offensive schemes and game plans. He also served as the strength and conditioning coordinator where he managed all strength and conditioning sessions.
In 2010, four members of Estep’s offense were named All-NCAC. Under the leadership of Estep, the Yeomen offense had the third best season in school history in regards to total yards (3,438), passing yards (2,291) and passing completions (196) including setting a school record with 622 yards in a 47-21 win over Hiram that season.
Estep helped three players win All-NCAC honors in 2011, including tight end Danny Enright, who was a first teamer. Oberlin set the single game passing record for passing yards with 458, led the NCAC in completions with 219 and were second in the conference with 248.5 passing yards per game under Estep that season.
Estep has extensive recruiting experience in the state of Ohio as well as Western and Central Pennsylvania and South and Central Florida.
A four-year letter winner on the offensive line, Estep started 37 games for Bluffton University from 2001-2004. Estep saw playing time at tight end, guard and tackle during his collegiate career. After finishing his playing career in the fall of 2004, Estep worked as a student assistant coach during the spring semester as the Beavers prepared for a game in Trieste, Italy in May of 2005.
Estep received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Bluffton University in 2005.
