Tyler Engle begins his first year as assistant baseball coach at Marietta College in 2015-16. In addition to his on field coaching duties, Engle will also serve as the Pioneers’ recruiting coordinator.
Engle comes to Marietta after spending the last two years as an assistant softball coach at NCAA Division I Elon University. He served as the primary hitting and defensive coach for the Phoenix as well as coaching first base. Under his tutelage, Elon set a school record for home runs in a season and increased its offensive numbers in runs scored, runs batted in, walks drawn, and extra base hits.
Prior to his time at Elon, Engle spent two years as a graduate assistant baseball coach at NCAA Division II Ohio Valley University. Engle served as the primary hitting and infield coach for the Fighting Scots.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Engle worked with the Covington Lumberkjacks of the Valley League for two summers. He served as the Lumberjacks’ assistant coach in 2012 and head coach in 2013.
Engle played collegiately at the Ohio State University where he was a four-year starter at shortstop for the Buckeyes. He made 189 career starts and helped the Buckeyes to the 2009 Big Ten Championship.
A native of nearby Beverly, Ohio, Engle was a three sport standout at Fort Frye High School. He was named first team All-Ohio and Division IV Player of the Year as a senior. Engle earned 11 varsity letters including four each in baseball and basketball and three in football. He also earned first team All-Ohio honors in basketball and finished as the all-time state leader in three-pointers with 329.
Engle graduated from Ohio State in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He completed a Masters in Education, Curriculum and Instruction from Ohio Valley University in 2013.
