Mike Deegan returns as an Associate Head Coach for his ninth season at his alma mater in 2011-12. Deegan is Marietta’s Recruiting Coordinator and Hitting Instructor. He also organizes the Pioneers’ agility program.
Deegan is a special assistant to the athletics director and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Advisor. He served as the assistant cross country coach during his first four years on staff.
Deegan was an integral part of the Pioneers’ national championship seasons in 2006 and 2011. He has helped develop many all-conference and All-American players including outfielder John Snyder. Snyder earned All-American honors after hitting .453 with 21 double and 63 runs batted in as a senior last spring. He was the third OAC Jack Rafeld Player of the Year honorees that Deegan has coached.
Deegan spent the summer of 2007 as the head coach of the Southern Ohio Copperheads and earned Manager of the Year in the Great Lakes League. Deegan, who guided the Copperheads to the most wins in franchise history with 25, also led Southern Ohio to their best postseason finish in history.
The two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) first team selection in 1999 and 2001 was a major contributor to four OAC championships, two NCAA Mideast Regional championships and two NCAA World Series appearances, including the 2001 NCAA National Runner-up finish for the Etta Express.
Deegan was awarded the Way-Weigelt Award in 2001 after receiving a degree in Management. The Way-Weigelt is the most prestigious of all Marietta College athletic awards and is awarded to the male of the senior class who, in the judgment of the athletic coaches, best demonstrated qualities of scholarship, leadership, character and sportsmanship in addition to participation in athletics.
Deegan earned a Master of Arts in Education from Marietta College in 2006. He and his wife, Lowrie, live in Marietta with their son Joey and daughter Elizabeth.
