MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team fell behind early to the College of Wooster on Wednesday (Sept. 16) evening as the Fighting Scots struck with a pair of goals in the first half to build a comfortable cushion. The Pioneers also could not find any success in the second half and lost the matchup, 2-0. With the loss, Marietta drops to 1-4. With the victory, the Fighting Scots improved to 3-2-1.
Wooster seized momentum in the 8th minute when Bella Crompton finished an attack assisted by Annie Henegar to break the ice. The Fighting Scots then doubled their lead at the 17:51 mark as Emma Fischer beat the Pioneer goalkeeper
Francesca Agliolo (San Gabriel, Calif./Mayfield Senior) unassisted to make it 2–0. Marietta attempted a quick response mid-way through the first half with consecutive shots on target from
Jaylyn Thornton (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) and
Emma Slusser (Cabot, Pa./Knoch), but Wooster goalkeeper Lucy Carlin turned both away. Wooster would take that two-goal lead into the intermission.
Marietta pushed up the field in the second half, generating chances from
Madelyn Call (Letart, W.Va./Point Pleasant),
Claire Warren (Logan, Ohio/Logan), and
Mackenzie Robinette (South Bloomfield, Ohio/Teays Valley), but Carlin again saved them all, preserving the shut out finishing with four saves on the day. Agliolo also finished with four saves for the Pioneers in the loss.
Marietta will next be in action this Sunday (Sept. 20) afternoon as they welcome in Ohio Wesleyan University to Marietta Field. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
