TIFFIN, Ohio — The Marietta College softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Heidelberg University Friday (Apr. 3) afternoon. The Pioneers won game one, 7-0, and Heidelberg won game two, 8-3. Marietta improves to 14-10 overall and 3-3 in the OAC. Heidelberg is now 15-8 on the season and 3-3 in the OAC.
Senior pitcher
Aiyana Hancock (Marietta, Ohio/Warren Local) (3-2) pitched a complete game, one hitter in the first game. She didn't allow a hit until the seventh inning. Hancock walked three and struck out five in the shutout.
While Hancock was dominating in the circle Marietta's hitters were getting the job done in the batter's box.
Becca Streets (Buckeye Lake, Ohio/Hebron Lakewood) got thing started with a solo home run in the second inning. She would also drive in runs with singles in the fifth and seventh inning.
Kenzi Denzer (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) smacked an RBI double in the fourth inning.
Liz White (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) drove in a run with a single in fifth and
Katie Sweeney (Alexandria, N.H./Newfound Regional) capped the four-run inning with a two-run home run to left.
Haley Gockstetter (9-2) went the distance in the circle for Heidelberg. She allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 7.0 innings. Gockstetter walked one and struck out two.
Streets and White each had three hits in the game, while Sweeney finished 2-for-4.
In game two, Heidelberg scored three runs in the bottom of the first and added five more in the third inning. All of Marietta's runs came in the top of the second.
Grace Elliott (Akron, Ohio/Green) had an RBI single and
Mallory Gorgacz (Edinburg, Pa./Union Area) plated two runs with a single up the middle.
Emma Cozza (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville Broadview Heights) (3-2) started and got the loss. Cozza allowed eight runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings.
Kylie Cobb (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda) worked 3.2 shutout innings of relief giving up five hits.
Taylor Forrest (5-5) got the win throwing 7.0 innings and allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out four.
Sweeney and Adisson heath each had two hits in the game.
Marietta plays at Muskingum University on Wednesday (Apr. 8) at 1:00 p.m.
